The Power of Affirmations in Reaching Your Goals

Updated: Aug 22, 2023

Affirmations have been a part of my daily routine for years now. I find them so helpful in grounding myself and asserting what I want to get out of the day. They can even help me overcome negative emotions and feel more in control of my future.

I’ve already spoken about the difference affirmations can make to your everyday life, but now I want to think a little bigger. At this time of year, a lot of us are setting goals for the year ahead - but so many of us abandon our new year resolutions in the first few weeks of the year.

Affirmations are one way you can carry your goals through with you for the rest of the year and actually achieve them. Let’s look at how you can translate your goals into affirmations.

Find Your Affirmation

There are two different types of affirmations that can help with goals. One is to integrate affirmations into your routine that change your mindset into one of positivity and resolve. Some affirmations that might help with this could be:

  • I believe in myself and trust in my goals.

  • I am 100% committed to achieving my goals this year.

  • I know I have the power and ability to make my goals happen.

You can mix up the wording to make it sound authentic to you, but affirmations with this message will help give you the powerful outlook you need to achieve your goals.

Alternatively, you can create more specific affirmations that link to your goals. Many of us make fitness goals around this time of year. Perhaps you’re keen to run a half-marathon; if we take that as an example, a good affirmation could be: “I trust in my body and strength that I will run X miles today.”

Having specific affirmations like this can help break down your ultimate goal into smaller steps. Running a marathon is hard, so having a specific daily affirmation makes it seem more manageable.

How Affirmations Affect Goals

Over time, as you reinforce these affirmations to yourself, your brain will slowly accept these words as truth. Even if you might initially feel doubtful about your goals - which is an understandable human reaction - persevere with those affirmations.

You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve when you slowly change your mindset!
